"Our future is the future of our young people"

The pundits and strategists  agree - youth turnout could make the difference in this important election. That means that we have an incredible,  once-in-a-generation opportunity to change politics in our country for the better. A vote for Anita and Justin Trudeau is a vote for Real Change.

What will a Liberal government do to support young Canadians?
  • We will increase the number of jobs funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program by 35,000 each year.
  • Double the almost 11,000 Canadians who can access Skills Link each year. Skills Link helps young Canadians who may be at risk of not making a successful transition to the workplace - such as First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and persons with disabilities or single parents - find meaningful employment.
  • We will create 5,000 youth green jobs.
  • Invest $40 million annually to create more co-op placements for students in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and business programs to help employers create new placement opportunities for students.
  • Waive employers' Employment Insurance premiums for a 12-month period on any net new hire of a full-time employee, aged 18 to 24, in 2016, 2017, or 2018. This will reduce costs to employers by approximately $80 million per year.
  • Work with provinces, territories, and post-secondary institutions to develop or expand Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programs.

Young Canadians have a lot at stake in this election, and it is too important to sit out. Take advantage of the Advance Polls this weekend and go cast your ballot for Anita!

And if you can, contact the campaign to Help Get Out The Vote on advance polls or election day!

**Advance polls are open today, Friday October 9th, to Monday October 12th!
Make sure to cast your ballot for Anita!!**

"Our future is the future of our young people. It means giving them the right tools to succeed and to contribute to our economy,"

Week 1: An event you do not want to miss

By now you've heard, Election 2015 is  underway, and the first week of the campaign is just about to come to a close. Throughout this campaign,  Anita will continue to do what she's already been doing for years: talking with residents of Ottawa West-Nepean at their doors, in the community and each week at Tim Horton's.

If you were inspired by Justin Trudeau's performance in yesterday's leader’s debate, we have an event that you are absolutely not going to want to miss. On Sunday August 9th at 2:00 pm, Anita will be hosting a rally with Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau to welcome him to Ottawa West-Nepean! We will also be welcoming fellow Liberal candidates from across the Ottawa-Gatineau region. What  a perfect way to to kick off our campaign and to build the momentum for Real Change in our great riding and across the country. Join us this Sunday (August 9th) at the Ukrainian Hall located at 1000 Byron Ave.

You can sign up for this FREE event here.

With the longest campaign in modern history ahead of us, this election promises to be like no other. Grassroots support, hope and hard work - are going to make the difference in the outcome of this election. The support from volunteers so far has been nothing short of amazing, and what we've already accomplished in Ottawa West-Nepean has been incredible. Make no mistake about it, winning campaigns is a team effort.  In yesterday’s leaders debate, Justin presented Canadians with his plan for Real Change, and people are listening. We need to work hard to share that positive message to every voter in Ottawa West-Nepean. If you'd like to join team Anita, please consider signing up to volunteer.

See you Sunday.

It's time!!

Mark your calendars because by-election in Ottawa West-Nepean has finally been set for October 19th 2015!! Yesterday,  Anita made it official by launching her by-election campaign in front of a huge crowd of supporters... It's time everybody!

Anita and her eager team of volunteers have already been working hard, and now have a firm election date to look forward to.  The goal over the  next 5 months is simple: work hard to elect Anita Vandenbeld to be a strong progressive voice for Ottawa West-Nepean. On  October 19th, we can make real and much needed change in this riding. But what we do between now and October  is crucial.   Elections are about earning votes, and to do that,  we need to get our message out to voters in Ottawa West-Nepean about our wonderful candidate, and Justin Trudeau's positive message of fairness for middle class families. To do that, we will need all hands on deck

Team Anita will be canvassing 6 days a week - and we would love to have you join our team of committed volunteers!

Check out  this recent article in the Ottawa Citizen about the extremely successful campaign launch that took place at Team Anita Headquarters (373 Poulin Avenue) yesterday:

With a great turnout and palpable energy in the room - we are going into this race strong, united, and with a whole lot of momentum!

Summer weather has finally arrived!!  And that means that canvassing with Team Anita is in full swing . Come join us!  The Youth for Anita team has put together The Top Five Things About Canvassing, to show you why this is a great way to be involved:

1) Have a real impact on the outcome of the election! Going door-to-door and engaging with voters will help bring much needed change in Ottawa West-Nepean.

2) Meet great people.  By joining the canvassing team, you'll have the chance to meet amazing like-minded volunteers who share Liberal values and a passion for improving our country. Many great friendships have formed through the shared experience of canvassing! On top of that, it feels great to relax with your fellow canvassers over a drink or a bite to eat after a few hours of hard work.

3) Team canvassing is  great opportunity to get to know our amazing candidate Anita... Need I say more?

4) Get the chance to talk politics! Let's face it, we all love politics. And if you're reading this blog- you definitely love politics. One of the best things about canvassing is the fascinating conversations you have with voters at the door.  If you take the time to listen to their concerns and issues, you're guaranteed to learn something new and unexpected every time you canvass.

5) Great exercise. Walking and Knocking, is a fun way to stay active over  the summer months. And we all know how important that is!

The best part about joining Team Anita, is that getting started is easy! Check out our canvassing schedule:

Tuesday: 6 - 9 pm
Wednesday: 12:30 - 3:30 pm
Saturday & Sunday: 1-5 pm

All you have to do is drop by our campaign office, located at 373 Poulin Avenue (below Farmboy), half an hour before any of  these times to get started.

Trust me, it  was tough to compress this list down to five reasons. If we could add one more, its that canvassing is  a no experience necessary form of volunteering. Endorsement: Fawzi Ghosn

It's clear that Anita cares about the issues that are important to young people: jobs, education,  social justice and the environment -  just to name a few. Anita's inclusive approach to politics has resonated with many young voters in Ottawa West-Nepean.

Today, we are very happy to share the story of Fawzi Ghonsn. Fawzi   - a local Young Liberal - wrote a great endorsement that explains why he is supporting Anita for Ottawa West-Nepean. Welcome to the team Fawzi!!   Keep an eye on the Youth for Anita blog to hear what young people in Ottawa West-Nepean are saying:

A mutual friend suggested I grab a cup of coffee with Anita at her usual place at the usual time - Wednesday at 5:00 pm at Timmies on Carling. What stood out right away was her genuine interest in what I had to say about the issues I cared about as a young Canadian. Her decades of experience working abroad to further women's rights and democracy coupled with her tireless commitment to those living in her community makes her the only candidate for Ottawa West-Nepean. I encourage everyone, Liberal or not, to reach out and have a conversation with Anita. I'm certainly glad I did.
