A great youth endorsement for Anita

I've had the pleasure of meeting Anita a few times and in addition to her incredibly friendly and welcoming personality, I am always struck by her experience and expertise in a variety of areas. Whether you just want to have a simple conversation or an in depth discussion, Anita knows her stuff! She takes heart to learn your name and to remember it for the next time that you meet (and you will see her again because she is everywhere in the community!) and really cares about the people that she wants to help. I would be honoured to have her as an MP.

Meet Justin Trudeau

On November 22nd, the Liberal Party Critic for Youth, Justin Trudeau MP will be joining us for Youth Voices ** Youth Choices, presented by Anita Vandenbeld.

Justin Trudeau has long been an advocate for youth and has supported youth leadership initiatives. He is certain to have a great message aimed at energizing and inspiring action so don`t miss out!

Anita's thoughts on Remembrance Day

Sixty-five years ago, in Deventer (Netherlands), a small boy climbed out of the cellar where he was hiding with his parents, and emerged into a new world. His hometown had been liberated by Canadian soldiers. The young boy excitedly approached the Canadian tanks parading through his street. As other people began to come out from hiding, the Canadians handed out candies to the Dutch children. That boy was my father, and it was the first time he had tasted a candy.

On this Remembrance Day, as I watched the ceremony at Carlingwood mall, I thought about the enormous debt of gratitude that we owe to our veterans. I feel this even more profoundly as a Canadian of Dutch descent, whose family wouldn't even be here were it not for the Liberation.

I feel it when I talk to my two cousins who both served in Afghanistan, and the husband of another cousin who continues to serve. And I felt it very strongly when I was working in Bosnia and Kosovo. I was aware every day that none of the civilian work I was doing in rebuilding democratic institutions there would have been possible without the 20,000 NATO troops around the corner who made it safe to be there at all. I remember celebrating Canada Day ten years ago at the SFOR base "Butmir" near Sarajevo with Canadian soldiers and feeling a rush of pride for the work that our country has done in stabilizing regions and building peace. I wish more Canadians could see it for themselves.

Remembrance Day is a chance to cross the generations, and find what binds us as a people. We all remember in our own personal way, and we all build on the stories of our parents and grandparents, which together make the story of Canada.

Lest we forget.

Activating the grassroots

Politics is about people. And campaigns are won by making personal connections with the candidate (Anita) and voters. Tonight, the grassroots has been activated.

There's not an empty seat in the house tonight! On the D-Day of the nomination call, we have a large group of youth volunteers helping with envelope stuffing, and even more volunteers generously donating their time to call supporters to let them know about the nomination meeting on November 28th.

Come and join us!

November 28th, VOTE FOR ANITA!

We've been working hard, but now it's time to kick it into high gear - THE MEETING HAS BEEN CALLED!

The meeting will be held at St. Paul High School, 2675 Draper Avenue, starting at 1 pm, on Sunday Nov 28. Youth have played a huge role in this campaign so far, but we need everyone to continue pushing and get more young people involved in the campaign. Let us know if you are interested in helping out electing the next Liberal candidate, and the next MP for Ottawa West-Nepean, Anita Vandenbeld!
